Elizabeth

Hiya! My name is Elizabeth (yes, just like that), I’m 19 years-old and I come from Aveiro.
I’ve always had a thing for languages, I want to learn as many as I want because I just love all these different types of cultures and learning a little bit of every part of the world is enriching for me.
I don’t regret being here, although what I would want was only a course with English, but Spanish is evolving, such as English is, and nowadays it’s really useful to know both languages. Spanish just evolved so much that statistically it’s more or less at the same level as English is, although English is considered the most important one. We will need both of these languages in our future, with the Internet, we will be considered illiterate if we don’t know them.
Bragança is a really beautiful city, its cozy, it’s very welcoming, and people here are really nice, they always have a smile on their faces and they’re willing to help you anytime. The School is great, the teachers of this degree couldn’t have been better, as well as the classmates, I really like it here. We have time to work and time to just joke around. If you really like languages and want to be ahead of things worldwide, then this is the right degree for you. English and Spanish are both rising languages. There are also people that come to do Erasmus and it’s really great to get to know them, you get to learn all about their country and it’s really awesome. For example, we had Erasmus students the first semester, they came from Spain and it was really good because with them we could practice our Spanish. You also can do Erasmus yourself if you’re really the traveling type, and you have the advantage of doing it if you get into this degree, but if not, we will also do trips to both Spain and England to know cities, to practise and be in contact with both culture and language. So it’s really fulfilling.
Since this is a new degree, and has more specific subjects it’s great because we feel special. You will be able to explore many things with both languages: Language, Culture, Linguistics and Literature.
There is no way you can drop out of this degree if you feel it’s too much for you because if you are really that passionate about languages, you will not give up. We get really deep in the learning of both languages and we can do many things with both of them out there with a variety of job opportunities that will allow you to be in touch with what you like and wish to do.
Of course, there are some bad things about it, things aren’t always perfect, and for me, although there’s only a few, what I find bad about it is there is some competition with students that like English more than Spanish and vice-versa. But it’s all good because we help those with difficulties and we are united because we are not a big class. Our schedule is tough at times, it depends on the semester but it’s not really that demanding, and if you like it and/or you have previous knowledge of them, then it’s even greater. I’m sure you won’t regret it.

“Language is a city to the building of which every human being brought a stone.”, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
