You might wonder what the relation of such a displeasing name to Xmas is. I also felt bewildered when I was confronted with its rather aggressive nature. I simply had to grasp it…
Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday of November), which is tremendously important for Americans: it celebrates the pilgrims and their first harvest.
Black Friday represents the beginning of the Xmas shopping season, along with promotional sales. It is apparently similar to Boxing Day in some Commonwealth nations.
This frenzy obsession has been such that shops started opening at 6am the day after Thanksgiving, others at midnight or even at 10pm on the day itself! It always turns out to be the busiest shopping day of the year.
Other reasons explain its black nature: aggressive assaults, gigantic traffic jams…
